This is a super solid choice for a dark German beer. I poured this into a big tulip glass. Very well balanced, right in the middle thickness and strength. Great head, toasty malt aroma and taste. Bready sweetness and subtle hop character with hints of wood. Very refreshing indeed. Pair it with some sausages for the obvious German combo experience.

Pours a dark reddish brown with soft, tan head.
Smell is rich and bready with some sweetness. Notes of brown bread, tobacco, dried fruit and some floral hints.
Taste is bready, sweet and a bit roasted. Notes of brown bread, tobacco, leather and plums with some floral hints. Soft bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium, smooth and well carbonated.
Overall, a fantastic dark lager, incredibly drinkable.

Taste: Crisp, bready, tangy dark malts, clean finish. Bready nose. Ruby/Brown hue, mostly clear, with a nice head and lace. Medium body. Would pair well with many dishes.

On tap at a small town in Wisconsin. Probably the only place in the US. Great example of this type of beer.

Lets start with the smell. Very smokey with a strong smell of dried fruit. How I would imagine a roasted plum over an open wood fire would smell.
Taste is the same, very strong. Almost too much after drinking hell all night. I'm enjoying it all the same but not sure if two in a row would be too much.
Mouth feel is where this fails unfortunately, I expect a second gulp just from the taste but it never comes.
Overall I have to recommend this if only to try just the once. Its very specific and could possibly be someone's favourite beer

Chestnut with a creamy, sand-colored head that fades to film.
Yeasty nose like proofing bread dough, with some apple underneath.
Brown soda bread toast, toffee hit, some cinnamon and hazelnut skin, and whisper of grassy hops.
Vaguely spicy linger and dry leave.
Light, crisp, round.
Sweet and watery - enough Munich malts to give some caramel, but the toastiness and the body never get going. Erdinger-esque. Pleasant (so bumping overall for general drinkability) but insubstantial.
Note: labelled at 5.1%

Poured from a .5l bottle into a 20oz imperial pint. Label lists abv at 5.1%. Thanks be to Iain for the hook up!
A: Pours a crystal clear reddish brown color. White, 3/4 finger head quickly recedes to a faint skim that leaves a minimal amount of lace in the glass. Rather active carbonation that dies off quickly.
S: Fruity toasted malt aromas dominate. There's also a clean citrus aroma that's very appealing.
T: Clean, lightly toasted malt flavors abound in this one. The malt briefly turns slightly sweet in the middle and then the aforementioned citrus hoppiness rears it's head towards the finish. The finish is toasty and spicy.
M: Very tidy, dry, and spicy at some points. The hops really prevent this from developing too much of a malty sweetness.
D: I could literally drink this all day long. Crisp, refreshing, and extremely flavorful.
