Crystal clear yellow body, bug white head and layer of lacing. Smells of pale yeast, cracker and stale white bread. Taste has a yeast that is macro euro, pale malt is decent though, forms a cohesive pale bready complexion. No depth at all though. Feel is fuller yet light, carb is higher, but somehow not crisp.

Nice crop pilsner from a nice, diverse brewery. It's crisp and malty on the nose . There is apple and pine in the taste. It's fresh, enjoyable and very, very drinkable. Nice.

Time for Pils... ner! [let me finish my sentence before you go all “drugs are bad, mmkay” dear reader] Looks like we’re back to Weißenoher Klosterbrauerei after their pretty damn awful Cannabis Club Sud brew. God that beer was awe-inspiring in its aw-fulness. Eucharius Pils promises to be a better affair, for one there’s no weird ingredients like hemp oil in it. But mostly it’s all about a German monastery making a classic German Pilsner - heavy-bodied, softly carbonated, honey/bread driven brews, yum! Sign me up captain. I’m definitely curious about their Monk's Fest beer with a large-set bald monk with ripe red cheeks on the front label - we know what he’s been up to, he’s been drinking all that delicious beer hasn’t he? Yep. Prost peeps!

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a stein.

A: Clear light golden body, some might say piss-yellow, but those people need to drink more water [your piss should be almost clear!] with a fluffy white head that compacts down to about a finger (a rather useless measurement as different individuals have different finger sizes). 7/10.

S: Red cider apples, hint of honey, a touch of crisp green apple, and a reasonably bready centre. Pretty straightforward German Pils, nothing out of the ordinary, just a good standard Pils. 7/10.

T: Crisp green apple upfront, which helps cut through a slight honey and heavy bread centre and lead towards a sweet cider apple note, finishing fairly crisp and floral. Reasonably bitter for a German Pils - which is low in IPA/APA terms, but nonetheless noted if you’re a keen Pilsner drinker and you don’t like any bitterness in your brew. Flavour overall is a bit “meh” TBH, needs a little sumptin’ sumptin’. 6/10.

M: Mid to light, touch watery, thin carbonation - needs more body and denser carbonation. 6/10.

D: Bit plainer than expected, needs better texture, average in all other areas, Weihenstephaner Pils puts this to shame frankly (I def underscored that Pils when I first reviewed it, coming back to that recently I was like “man this is the sheeit!”). Not much else to say about Weißenoher Klosterbrauerei Eucharius Pils - it’s just a middle of the road brew. Entschuldigung nicht leid. 6/10.

Food match: German fare is what will get you there, have some schweinefleisch or pretzels mit senf, that will definitely be the ticket mein freund.

There's nothing like a great German pils. Here's hoping this is one of them...

50cl bottle from Ambrosetti in Berlin. Served chilled into a pilsner glass:

A: Head is healthy, frothy, and white, with a nice consistency and complexion. Retention is good, though the ABV is admittedly meagre, diminishing that accomplishment...~7 minutes.

Body is a clear clean yellow of average vibrance.

To style, but not impressive. Very conventional, with seemingly high carbonation judging by the head. A more vibrant body and a livelier head would improve the appearance.

Sm: Honeyed malts, bright pilsner malts, floral hops, still more honey, soft water, faintly grassy Noble hops. A kiss of red apple (without any cane sugar cidery characteristics). Even some vanilla, which is a bit odd.

It's rather appealing, with a honeyed dimension rare in a pilsner - but one I'm not sure will work taste-wise. Let's find out...

T: The odd vanilla bends it a bit artificial, and frankly vanilla as a note has no place in the delicate harmony that should be a pilsner build. The hop character is nice, albeit too floral where it ought to be more grassy...I don't doubt Noble's usage, but the hop profile is nevertheless atypical. The interesting honey so prominent in the aroma has faded here in the taste, but still bolsters the otherwise conventional pilsner malt backbone with some welcome sweetness. Speaking of the pilsner malt base, it could come forward as more fresh and with more depth of flavour, but it gets the job done.

It's nicely balanced for what it is, but that pesky vanilla note has got to go.

Mf: Nicely soft...good job on the water chemistry. Smooth and wet to style, though not as light-bodied, fragile, or refreshing in feel as the best examples of the style. Some may find it a touch buttery. Overcarbonated, though not egregiously so.

It's pretty well done for what it is, but fails to elevate the beer as a whole or to accentuate specific notes from the flavour profile.

O: Rothaus has nothing to fear from Weissenohe...this is another well-intentioned but ultimately wanting German pilsener. Drinkable, though not to the extent it ought to be (in part because of its increased sweetness and strangely high carbonation). This is easily above average, but with Rothaus' Tannenzapfle more widely available and priced at a scant ~80 cent, who would bother with this?
