A barrel aged regular strength monastery beer. At 6.50 euros for a 0.75 liter ceramic bottle it is much more expensive then the typical 0.55 to 0.65 euro for 0.5L of beer.
Glowing, transparent, deep amber colored beer holds a few lazily rising bubbles. Short creamy off-white head holds for a few minutes. Mild roasted malt aroma with a bit of floral hops hiding underneath. Soft body with low carbonation. Solid malty flavor is a bit roasted and a bit nutty. Grassy hop flavor is subdued and never stands a chance. Maybe a hint of woody fruitiness towards the end, but it's so faint it could just be in my head. After a few sips the bitterness in the finish builds up to a detectable level. Based on carbonation and flavor it reminds me of a kellerbier, but the lack of haze is throwing me. It's a nice beer, but nothing that would make me want to pay the asking price again.
