Copenhagen 15/5 2021. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Rotunden, Hellerup. Brown label with a white round church. Apparently a collaboration with an Italian metal band named Dark Quarterer. Strange bedfellows.

Pours infinitely dark brown with a dark beige head. Stable. Settles as thin layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. Clinging to the sides of the glass. Moderate lacing.

Aroma is intense with a sweet sugary odor mingling with dark boozy fruit and earthy notes. Brown sugar, cherries marinated in liqueur, chocolate and molasses. Licorice root. Sharp edge of alcohol dampened by the potent sweet scent.

Light carbonation. Thick, viscous, fat, creamy, soft texture. Very lightly tingling.

Flavor is intense with a strong sugary sweetness followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a strong sweet undertone. Lingering. Finish is bitter dry licorice.

Potent and heavy sweet - but not without balance. I might begin to enjoy Italian metal.

December 2020: 500 ml bottle, from Løvbjerg Brønderslev. ABV is 12.3%. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma of roast malts, chocolate, mild coffee, a hint of vanilla. Moderate carbonation. Distinct roasty flavour, notes of dark bitter chocolate, strong and bitter coffee, liquorice and a hint of vanilla, also substantial bittering hops. Sweet, but the bitterness is dominant. Not perfectly balanced, but impressive.
