Presentation: 22 fluid ounce Bomber. Single, simple label, a faded looking beige square shaped affair with an original black & white picture of 5 Californian Babes from what looks like the 50s, walking into the sea in Long Beach, and all bedecked in beach attire from that era. It has the words, Morrys of Naples, above, and Long Beach Pilsner, below. Strangely, the gold crown cap has the number 32 written on it in black ink. Small lettering states that this is brewed at BrewBakers. All in all, it has an appearance of a well presented bottle of beer from an avid home-brewer. But there again, I suppose this maybe!
Appearance: Exceptionally clear body, straw colored with some golden hints. A positively massive froth filled expansive head evolves at first, which aside from taking over half of my 24oz glass, takes over the first mouthful of beer, as its all froth. The bleach white head eventually settles to a nice collar, about ¼ thick. Good solid inherent carbonation adds to the vivacious body.
Nose: Pilsner Malts and Hops are evident, but overall the nose is quiet restrained in strength. Some citric lemon at the back end. Nice clean hoppy aroma when sniffed deeply.
Taste: Very fresh tastes, pilsner malts at the beginning, rise in the smooth middle, solid carbonation helps to distribute the flavors. Lemony hops in the end give a fruity aspect to the finish. A little dry. Very nice and by no means another one of those Eurolager type Pilsners I have so often tasted. Crisp, with clean lines.
Mouthfeel: Above average, good dissolved carbonation gives the beer a spritzy feel, exactly as you would expect for a Pilsner.
Drinkability: Very quaffable, and an exceptionally clean, crisp drink. Not bad at all. I had quite taken to this offering just as I got to the bottom of the Glass.
Overall: Not bad, I actually picked this up at Morrys of Naples, a local specialist beer store not far from my Apartment in Long Beach, whom this beer is brewed for (by?) and after which this is named. My have to pick up another couple of these up next time.
