Presentation: 22 fluid ounce Bomber. Single, simple label, a faded looking beige square shaped affair with an original black & white 1950s style picture of about 20, or so, men & women of all ages enjoying themselves down on an olde-worlde Long Beach. It has the words, Morrys of Naples, Long Beach Lager, written on the lower quarter of the label. Strangely, the gold crown cap has the number 28 written on it in black marker ink. Small vertical lettering states that this is brewed at BrewBakers (of Huntington Beach).
Appearance: Dark ambergolden colored, perfectly lucid body. A large foamy white head that can appear beige at times due to the orange luminescent nature of the Lagers golden body. A solid ¼ thick collar type head covering when it settles. Good solid inherent carbonation, rebuilds the head, adds to the vivacious body.
Nose: Hmm, nice levels of crisp clean Hops. Malts are in the background, but unlike the Long Beach Pilsner, the nose is stronger. Highlights are orange zest fruitiness at the back end. Clean aromas focused on the Hops.
Taste: Crisp hoppiness, again like the Pilsner I had earlier, the tastes are very fresh. Lightly roasted malts rise in the middle, slightly dry in the middle, just when the orange fruitiness breaks through to add fruity-malt dimensions, whilst all the time the Hops are there in the background. The crisp hops dominate the astringent ending. Not a classic Lager, but very refreshing and a nice flavorsome drink.
Mouthfeel: Above average, the levels of dissolved carbonation lend a lively aspect to the beers feel in the mouth.
Drinkability: A clean tasty Lager that is easily quaffed. I particularly like the fruity character of this Lager, appealing.
Overall: As with the Long Beach Pilsner, I actually picked this up at Morrys of Naples, a local specialist beer store not far from my Apartment in Long Beach, whom this beer is brewed for (by?) and after which this is named. Nice Lager that is well worth a try.
