Presentation: A ubiquitous 22 fluid ounce brown glass Bomber with a single label that looks the Brewers 4-year old daughter made it at school and which wouldnt look out of place stuck on a Refrigerator. The pastel green and orange obverse label simply says Pumpkin Ale above a partial picture of one. Lots of blurb warning about the dangers of alcohol but none that gives the merest of a hint at a Freshness Date or Strength. It does state that this beer is from Brewbakers of Huntington Beach though.
Appearance: Golden color with some orange hints, like Golden Orange Marmalade in appearance. Clear with lots of streamers. Big white head at first that collapses in a random manner and leaves a 3-D Cobweb like lacing which is quite remarkable to look at. Superb appearance.
Nose: Pumpkin and All-Spices are heavy in the nose; none of the beers main ingredients come through at all just the Pumpkin and the spices. Average yet Pumpkinny.
Taste: This offering has a very sharp bitter-sour taste profile. Light sour pumpkin and mixed spices at first with some malt but the ending is very bitter, still crisp though, some hints of ground Nutmeg in the ending. Not sickly at all but not exactly a session beer either.
Mouthfeel: Pretty average mouthfeel really. Decent carbonation lends a good feel in the mouth. But its difficult to mark this one; the only memorable thing here is the deep lingering pumpkin bitterness I find.
Drinkability: Erm, not that good actually. I struggled with the Bomber to be honest and I would recommend sharing one of these if you have one.
Overall: My burps definitely testify to the fact that this is a Pumpkin Ale, but it is not a sweet one by any stretch of the imagination. Very bitter and just plain friggin weird.
