Scotch Ale aged on oak. Malty with notes of toffee and cedar, beginning sweet but balanced with light oak tannins. Rich and warming.

On tap at the King’s Head in Portland, ME.

This one pours a dark brown-ish color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

There’s some toffee, a little bit oakiness, and a little bit of peat.

This is definitely not this brewery’s specialty, as they’re definitely a bit of an IPA factory. It’s malty and sweet, maybe a little too sweet for the style. The nice little bit of smoke and oak does help that, though.

This is medium bodied, not super boozy, with a good drinkability.

This was a pleasant little surprise from a brewery I wouldn’t have expected to do this well.

A cold rainy day, perfect for this, no can date
Pours a fizzy slight creamy 1/2 finger off-white head with fair retention, a touch of lacing, mostly clear ruby color

Nose brings some sweet toffee, a bit of butterscotch like, sweet candied malts, a very biscuity grainy bread crust, candied apple, caramel creams, some fruity malt-derived esters like orchard fruit and a hint of cherry

Taste has some fruity esters in quickly, again a little cherry note, candied apple, fig, then layers of sweet malts, caramel and toffee with butterscotch, caramelized brown sugar, a bit more of the biscuity dessert bread almost crumb cake like, a hint of bitterness and mild warming smooth alcohol, semi sweet sticky finish

Mouth is med to fuller bod, med slight prickly carb, light warming alcohol

Overall not bad, a bit heavy on the sweet profile characters for the style, but that's typical of American breweries.

Poured from an undated 16 oz can, into the test glass.
A - A beaultiful mahagony red/brown color. Nice clarity lets a gentle parade of carbonation be on full display.
Starts with a thin off white cap, morphing into a steady ring clinging the perimeter.
S - Brown sugar, a bit of caramel. raisin, some pumpernickle.
T - More caramel forward, sweet malts, and earthy hop thread, a hint of smoke.
M - Thick on the palate, sweet but avoids the trap well. Pleasant dry finish, with just enough bitterness to clean up.
Linger is delightful and invites another sip.
