Black Angus Cascadian Double is a clear, dark, almost leathery brown ale. Pinpoint CO2 supports a cloudy cream colored head with good retention.
On the nose, Black Angus is rich and malty, offering an up front sweetness. The aroma is full of toasted rye bread combined with what smells like ripe dates and ripe red cherries. Hints of rock sugar provide a sweetish through note. All of this comes together to give an overall impression of coffee and breakfast pastry.
Black Angus is full bodied with notable carbonation carrying and accentuating the beer's flavors across my palate. Rich, intense maltiness comes through first in the form of toasted rye bread. Damp earth follows, combining with flavors of ripe dates. As with the nose, I also notice what tastes like ripe red cherries combined with other orchard fruit. The finish is crisp and assertively bitter.
Partly because this is the first Black IPA I've ever had. Black Angus is interesting but I'm not sure if I like this style of beer or not.
