a real flavorful, sturdy, and refined red ale, hoppy as these go, clean overall, drier for the style too, and very well done, my first ever from these guys, consumed right there at the brewery, cool spot! clear mahogany colored beer with almost glassy shine it, even in low light, and an airy off white head that fades slowly. the balance on this is cool, a lot of these end up as sort of old school beer flavored beers in the amber vein, but not this one, its bolder and more complex than that, with neat grain depth thats past caramelized but yet isnt overly sugar objectively speaking, something melanoidin or something kilned like that, awesome extraction of its character in this mash, and the hops are piney and strong, adding freshness and even some oily bitterness, short of the red ipa range, but way beyond the typical amber, and that is true in both aroma and flavor. as it warms things like toasted bread crusts, light smoke, and even almond come out, while the hops play in an almost gin space and make this seem fresh and alive. the texture is fuller bodied, off dry, and lightly creamy, and the carbonation is good. palate coating but in a good way, dried fruitiness at the end too, a raisin note, faintly bready ale yeast. really tasty beer, a style i rarely get too excited about, but this is excellent, and really good with the delicious bbq they have next door!
