Breakfast Stout

simple but solid, a robust stout with coffee, lots of roasted grain meets relatively bitter coffee, low acidity but high potency, flavorful and balanced enough, maybe a little thin in terms of body, but its well enough done and it scratched my itch for both a darker brew and a little caffeine when i was cruising through. deep brown in color, not much viscosity, short lived head from the tap, off white, visually unremarkable. the nose is the best part, smooth roasty coffee with some dark chocolate and raisin character to it, maybe added in after fermentation, it seems to sort of mellow out the stout itself rather than really enhance it. the base beer is lacking body and grain depth, but is pleasant to drink, maybe some oats to beef this up and smooth it out, give the coffee something to hold on to, but it does have some dark chocolate character and some bitterness set against a little mid palate sweetness, proportions are just fine. the ferment is cleaner than in the other beer i had in here, and this finishes on the dry side with the coffee being the last thing left on my palate. nothing super special here, but this is a nice use of the coffee and a reasonable brew overall.
