Inspired by the full bodied rich and roasted black lagers of Czechia this is a beer for winter contemplation. Brewed with a double decoction mash, extended boil and packed with British grown fuggles hops this beer is big, bold and will leave you wanting another.

Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
L- At a distance it's effectively black, up close it's deeeep chestnut-red, then held to a halogen bulb it's a deep ruby red. Pours clear with a 3mm mid-tan head that holds well and forms lacing on the way down.
S- Given the looks I'm surprised how mild the smell is, just some light toasty notes for me.
T- ... that's better. Into some deep toasty notes, moderate malty richness with parallel hoppy dryness. The quite pungent deep malts are what linger on the palate.
F- Following the latter^, it's quite pungent, but at the same it's not heavy, there is no threat of pondering 'Is this aspect rich or sweet?', nope it's not even notably rich - a nice change vs many contemporary re-interpretations such as this one. Conclusion medium+ dry, yet full/pungently flavoured.
O- Fully flavoured while being light'ish in body. There is no real trace of the ABV% that I notice [hat-tip to the brewers for subtlety]. This would make a sessionable brew in colder months, one for slow-sipping. Very polished indeed, nothing to note that's out of place or balance. I'd happily buy this again.
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! ==> The lable suggests it is a beer for 'winter contemplation', haha, well exactly!
440ml can BB: 07/06/21 £2.80 Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
