e0,5l bottle dated 12.23. This is quite common around Stuttgart so I had to finally try it. There are a few beers of this name listed on BA so I did way more research than this beer deserves to find accurate information. This is not made by Allgäuer Brauhaus AG. Looks like Privatbrauerei Franz Joseph Sailer was the original manufacturer but they’re now closed. Listed on the label is Altenmünster Brauer Bier GmbH out of Marktoberdorf-Leuterschach. Oddly enough, a Allgäuer Brauhaus AG exists in both this town and Kempten, which is listed as their location on this site. The label seems to have been used for multiple breweries with the Bavarian flag design, a traditional church, and 5.0%. But when searching for the beer on Google, this specific beer seems to have branched off into its own brand. It even has its own IG page. German business structure is confusing. Regardless, after all that, it’s an unremarkable beer that’s just a mediocre Helles. Easy drinking, cheap, super light. Would only drink again if it’s free or the only beer available.

Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country...
L- Pours clear pale gold, similar to a white sparkling wine. Lively rising CO2 and a 2mm white cap. ps @+5mins, CO2+foam cap hold well.
S- Just some mild grains for me.
T- Dry and bright, then a note of malts peaks in briefly, tailing off into again dry, bright and a dry CO2 sense of the palate. ps@+10mins the very gentle flavour *does* open up a bit as it warms a touch. Ie serving friedge-cold seems to flatten this beers taste pretty big-time.
F- Dry, light feeling, and refreshing what with the prominent CO2 in the mouth.
O- A good beer for summer, especially for lunchtime. I'll guess the ABV% as 4.7%. It's not doing much of note for me, ie it doesn't have anything special I note that would lead me to buy it again. Ultimately it seems a bit thin and light.
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! ==> 5%. Trad Bavarian labelling. When I was using the Search function to add this beer I found something puzzling. If you search on Oberdorfer you come up with a now closed Bavarian private brewery, what used to brew a Helles beer. That beer's lable featured the precise same illustration of ... building/clocktower/outbuiding/tree and mountains behind as on this beers lable they are surely connected!? I'm wondering whether Altenmunster (this one) bought out the historic beer recipes previously brewed by the 'Privat Brauerei'*... hmmm...
500ml bottle £2.90 BB: 12-21. Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
