Birra Contromano "Serpe 'N Seno"
33cl brown glass bottle coded "Da consumarsi preferibilmente entro: 06/23 Lotto: 15" and sampled on 30/11/22
8€ @ Aeternum Beer Shop, Roma, IT
Notes: Refermented in the bottle.
Look: Hazy golden beneath a full head of pillowy white foam. Very good head retention and lacing.
Aroma: Notes of sweet and grainy malt, sugar, flowers, honey, banana, pear, apple, yeasty spiciness, and alcohol.
Taste: The flavor follows the aroma. It's sweet but balanced by a median bitterness of around 40 IBUs. The sugary and honeyish character remains, as does the fruit and spice. A touch of nuttiness joins, and some leafy and herbal hops appear in the finish. The alcohol is present but not distracting.
Feel: Medium bodied and dextrinous with a gently effervescent, fine-bubbled natural carbonation that becomes airy and then creamy smooth.
Overall: Although it may perhaps be a little sweet this is a very well done and charming take on the Belgian strong golden style.
