Hazy yellow with orange highlights. A one-inch, fine white foam lasts a long while, eventually leaving a dense coating of lace. The Spiegelau IIPA glass showcases this beer nicely.
The aroma opens with strong mandarin and grapefruit balanced against an equal amount of pine sap. Pineapple and mango follow, while warmth amplifies pine tar and pith.
Earthy grapefruit and orange pith blend well with the strong bitterness. Pineapple lingers in the background. The finish is long and mild and, while similar to the initial flavors, it is fairly muddy.
The body is medium to full with a texture similar to a tapestry. Alcohol is as expected, and the carbonation is moderate.
With all the beers for a cause that have come out lately, this one is truly special in its own right. While not quite refreshing on a very hot Sunday afternoon, it is refreshing to the spirit.
