Way back in my beercellar I found this Doppelbock...
The beer pours, clear, very dark mahugny colored with a huge, three finger high, white head. Just a little lacing on the glass.
Nose: Caramel malt, dried fruit, plum, whipped cream, bread and dark syrup.
Taste: Sweet caramel, fudge, nuts, bread, dried fruit and a little bit of smoked ham.
Mouth: Medium body. Light and soft carbonation - maby because its three years after "best before"? Sweet ending.
I want my doppelbock thick, rich and powerful - this is not...

The beer lets out a fizzing sound while being poured. The high compact pale brown head slowly sinks down leaving some lacing. The clear liquid is brown (60 EBC).
The smell is malty with distinct notes of wood. Alcohol, solvents and a light bitterness. Some spices and toffee. Dried fruits and turpentine.
The taste is sweet. Malty notes, caramel and milk chocolate bars. Passing bitter notes and hay. It is surprisingly light, the body is light to medium. Toffee and alcohol in the aftertaste as well as some solvents, butterscotch and spicy hints of Coca-Cola. The finish is short and light with some alcohol.
Sharp large bubbles, medium strong carbonation. The liquid is light.
A Doppelock should be sweet and powerfull, yet highly drinkable. This one got none of those characteristics.

A: Pours dark burgundy with a massive tan compact head that takes forever to dissipate, but when it does - man the lacings - so rich!!!
S: Sweet malt, but surprisingly mild. Some dark dried fruits along with smoked ham.
T: Rich sweetness to the malt, rich breadyness. In the back there is some dark dried fruits along with the smoked ham from the smell, but the sweet malt "reigns supreme".
M: Full body, low carbonation and short aftertaste, sweet. Kind of boring...
O: Not bad, but this is nothing more than an avarage Doppelbock. If possible, choose another one!
