Keller Pils is almost clear, with a ruddy amber/copper appearance (SRM 6-8). A big 3" off white foam holds a while before compressing and leaving patches of lace one double walled pint glass. The initial burst of golden carbonation quickly fades to occasional large bubbles.
The aroma has the sweet, toffee notes of biscotti. Light esters and raw honey follow. Lots of grain counters light sour dough, earthiness and faint floral hops.
I am immediately reminded of toasted Keiser or kimmelweck rolls, with the first sip. Light sweetness is balanced by bitterness. Honey offsets mineral flavors. The finish is mild and lingering.
The beer is impressively soft and smooth, with only a light prickle of carbonation and light alcohol.
This is exceptionally easy to consume. One could easily add this to a tailgate party or any occasion when sessionable beer is desired. It looks and feels like an autumnal beer. I drank this on a cool late Summer, sunny afternoon, while reading under a walnut tree. I easily imagine it would fit nicely at a traditional Franconian village square of beer garden.
