A creamy dark almond head briefly holds 1", before falling to a thin blanket. Only a webbing of lace is left on the wall of a Pretentious Beer Glass Co. Imperial Tulip glass. The beer is very dark brown (SRM 30-34), and is black in the glass. Very, very dark mahogany highlights can bee seen when put to light.
The sweet malt compliments a roasted chocolate aroma, while toffee perfumes the mix. While fairly simple, it is enticing. Warmth brings out a light soapiness.
This is a comfortable stout, sweetness and bitterness in a friendly competition. The roasted quality is a bit like cocoa beans and the toffee is pronounced. Blackberries add a faint tartness. It warms well, although there is no progression. The finish is light, with light fruitiness.
This has a thin body and a silky smooth texture. Soft, almost imperceptible carbonation give room to allow the alcohol to show. The alcohol is far below expectations, and really only present in the finish. A modest level of residual sugar is left on the lips.
This beer is spookily appropriate, as a pop-up electrical storm rolls in and overwhelms the atmosphere, all while I am listening to Beethoven's 4th symphony.
