Bottle purchased at the brewery, tasted a day later.
Large big-bubbled head that settles in reasonable amount of time. The liquid has a mild haze and is the color of dirty gold. Some splotchy spots throughout the tasting.
The smell is strongly earthy initially. Subsequent smells draw out black pepper and faded pale malt.
Very rich body enhanced by a lower carbonation level. The beer tastes darker than it appears with some brown bread flavors coming through. The mouthfeel becomes oily by the time of the swallow. The bitterness while strong, isn't nearly as present as the smell would have me believe. The finish is well balanced with a more moderate aftertaste. Even at 10% abv, this isn't nearly as boozy as some beers with far lesser alcohol content.
Overall, this is an interesting entry. I wouldn't categorize it as a superior beer but it does have some interesting componenets making it worth seeking out.
