The dark amber color is a surprise, like a serious Red/Amber Ale. Plenty of foam in the Brigand chalice. Aroma of bread, citrus, and a whiff of grapefruit. Sudsy and full bodied on the tongue. It's just so malty as to be surprising, but quite drinkable I find. Distinct bitter aftertaste to balance the sweet malty start. Flavors of roasted grain and resins with a touch of caramel. I think this is quite good and would like to try it on tap. From the 16 oz can purchased at the Penn Cove taproom (thanks, Clayton). Canned on my birthday in Sept 2022.

16oz can (dated 7/18/22) poured into 16oz Willi Becher. Poured a dense, dark orange-brown color with a half-inch of just off-white head that moderate retention and very light lacing.

The aroma had a grain base that was nicely present, but not dominant. Big bright citrus and pine hops were certainly the lead role. A bit of grapefruit.

Similar on the tongue, with the citrus, and especially the grapefruit having an even bolder presence. The grapefruit lingered pleasantly on the back of the palate.

The body was touch on the light side of the style, had a pleasing coarseness, and a semi-dry finish.

Drinkability was good, the kind of IPA you could have several of.

Overall, a solid example of the stye (except for the looks, let's work on that duders). Worth a shot if you see it.
