a pretty rich amber color on this, high clarity for the style, and a lot of grain flavor without a ton of depth, if that makes sense, like its almost one note on the grain side, but that note is played very loudly, in a good way, its nice barleywine, freakishly drinkable too with its well disguised alcohol strength, look out. the aroma here is baked bread with a nutty earthy character and a little caramelized grain sugar, a note of maple and honey in the taste, fresh in a neat way i dont often perceive in this type of ale, and there is a very subtle appreciable english type yeast element as well. working towards dry in the finish, slightly spicy for a split second like there could be some rye in the mix, but then its just warm and cozy and toffee forward to finish. lighter body for the style, higher carbonation, overall a real nice offering, even if its slightly plain as these go, its well made and weirdly drinkable. i could see this taking well to a barrel treatment of one type or another. good beers in here!
