Dusty cherry red appearance with a scant pink head. Taste notes of cherry skin, pie filling, balanced tart and sweet. Moderate to low carbonation and body.

2020 vintage. my first from these guys, a bottle i have been saving awhile, cool that there are more and more lambic brewers and blenders coming back, absolutely one of my favorite styles, and the current diversity rules. this one is neat, deep ruby red with a real muted luster to it, almost a little dull looking, very short and patchy head on it, some sediment in the bottom of the bottle, nice color saturation, a little thin looking. the nose is more fruit than ferment, still obviously identifiable as lambic, but the cherries really pop, juicy and sweet rather than medicinal or tart, but this isnt the all fruit juice type of lambic, it still has a lot of oak on it, red wine notes, faint vanilla, raspberry and currant nuance, and some tartness and funk, albeit it a little bit subtle. the flavor is more of a balance between the two, more juicy cherry and baked fruitiness up front, the wood and the bretty funk on the back end, never very sour but not just because the fruit sweetness balances it, not much acidity is in this at all. there are cranberry and cherry candy notes, enough oak, a vinous twang, graphite, light bitterness, and some old world farmy weirdness late, but its also somewhat subtle, not nearly as wild to me as many others, and the maturity is not in the yeasts but in the texture, like this has a slow and patient pace about it, very lightly carbonated and with a little green glass thing to it as well, so it still has a regal lambic vibe, even without the totally dried out spontaneous character. juicy and tasty, unique but in a mellow way, im sure this will age well, id love to try it in five or so years, maybe ten. i hope to track down more from these guys, especially an unfruited one, to gain a better appreciation of their process and their fermentation profiles!

Dark sanguine ruby tone, bright clarity, a finger of pastel pink foam rises above the rim and settles over the course of a few minutes. Spotty lace after each sip.

Aroma is intense with fruit and barrel at equal intensity. Musty attic wood, dried eucalyptus, acidic dark cherries.

Sour and acidic dark cherries, leafy fruit, tart lemon, tannic cranberry, wet wood. Vinous and medium bodied, light carb. Spritzy then it mellows nicely. Bone dry in the finish. It certainly is bracing at first, but becomes more like an acidic red wine over time.

Really nice stuff, vivid cherry and lots of depth, vinous and bright. Senne Eylenbosch shows great promise as a new lambic blender, looking forward to his future blends.

A 375ml corked and caged bottle, bottled on 17th January 2021, with a best before date of 9th November 2041. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.

Appearance: It was a very slightly hazy ruby red colour, with an almost two finger pinkish head that had decent retention, while leaving some lacing.

Aroma: Tart, cherries, with notes of almond, marzipan, oak and lemon zest.

Taste: It’s what you’d expect from the aroma, sour, tart, cherries, marzipan, almond, oak, and a splash of lemon flesh, with light funk notes on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with soft to moderate carbonation.

Overall: A good and enjoyable Oude Kriek. I preferred this over their Oude Schaarbeekse Kriek, and having tried these two Kriek’s, would love to try their other products.

375 mL bottle. Pours deep red. Smells of jammy cherry. Hefty cheesy funk and a dose of oak.. Tastes of dried grass and oak with a sweet cherry flavor. Hints of spice and pie cherry. Turns earthier and deeper with a more vinous cherry finish with hints of minerals. Well carbonated. Finishes very funky. Very nice.
