Poured from the bottle into a weissbier glass at the airport in Menningen.

Being an Ur-weizen, not a dunkel weizen, the color is amber. Hazy as usual for the style. Nice head retention and lacing. Banana bread aroma, supported by clove. Dry and malty. Definitely too fizzy — mouthfeel is the worst attribute of this beer. Nice too see and drink an ur-weizen, but it’s no match for Ayinger’s version.

Hazy dark orange color with off-white head. Aroma has fresh yeast, oranges, cloves and wheat. Taste starts with some clean malt followed by yeast flavor, finish is slightly astringent with orange flavor. Medium to full bodied with medium effervescence. Overall it's a really balanced beer. Not as dark and roasty as other dunkelweizens, just a bit more heavy than a standard hefeweizen.
