Consumed June 12, 2016, thanks to Chicago Frank (lurchingbeast) for the hookup on the UFC betting pool.

Pours black, brown head, this is entirely expected. 1/4" deep head. You can't discern from the appearance the difference between this and an imperial stout. Aroma was maybe a 4 on the 10 pt bourbon intensity scale. Additional notes of vanilla, wood, roasted barley and chocolate. Again, we're in standard territory, which is good news for this kind of beer.

Taste leans more towards the bourbon side to the detriment possibly of the roasted barley, but also at play is a larger than life impact of the smoothening via vanilla. So while you lose a bit of roasty notes, you also get more bourbon and vanilla that also hides the alcohol better than average. Carbonation was just fine on this.

In every way, this fits where it is supposed to, does what it is supposed to etc. . . they are who we thought they were. If this beer was a football team, it would make the playoffs, but not the championship.

Pours with a nice khaki head. Dark brown with reddish hints at the edges. Smell starts with chocolate, cherry wood. Bourbon booziness comes out strongly as it warms and overwhlems the base a bit. Not getting a lot of porter roast. Flavor takes the same path from chocolatey with a bit of toffee and cherry wood to overly bourbony without a lot of nuance. Good creamy feel.

Quite good but slightly missing the depth and finish it needs.
