Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery

This was a real treat. Draft at the pre-DLD party.
Pours a dark ruby in color with no head at all. Smell is wonderful bourbon notes with plenty of dark fruits. Two of my favorite attributes to a beer. Plenty of bourbon and dark fruits in the taste as well as some tannins and slight spice. Mouthfeel is medium and very enjoyable. I just couldn't get away from this beer. Another very well done beer from Flossmoor.

Appearance - I bought a glass of this at the pre-DLD '08 event at Flossmoor. This poured out of the plastic box/keg thingy with little to no head. The color was a burgundy/black, leaving it a mystery as to exactly what kind of beer this was.

Aroma - this smell was all over, little surprise for a beer made of ten other beers. Sweet and fruity, roasty, a bourbon-laced abv, coffee, chocolate. A lot going on and I'm not convinced they all get along together, but it's interesting.

Taste - not too far from the aroma. Sweet, roasty, the stout and some fruit are wrestling for control. Neither one wins, with light caramel malts and soft bourbon notes kind of muddling things. It's like having 5 qualified candidates running for one office, and they're all getting 15 to 30 per cent of the vote. The swallow is decidely warm, the finish is sweet and roasty as the start.

Mouthfeel - plenty smooth, the carbonation gets a little snowed under with all the heavy beers in here.

Drinkability - I'm always game to try whatever new beer Matt whips up, but I'd gravitate to any of the others as this one I felt was lacking an identity.

On tap at Flossmoor for the pre-DLD event. Pours rich dark brown to maroon colored with a very light head. Smell is fruity, vinuous, tart, oaky and complex. Very unique, dry fruity flavor almost bridging the gap between beer and wine. Very unique and hard to describe as it was unlike anything else I've had, but was quite enjoyable.

Not sure of others thoughts but I love Flossmoors Barrel Aged beers. This was probably the most complex brew I tried of the DLD weekend.

A dark brooding rainbow of satanic colors. Black, brown, with scarlet intertwined. A tan head creamy and rich fades quickly.

Sweet oaky boozy and bourbony. Oh yeah boubony the barrel aging really comes through big in both aroma and flavor. Not for the easy going. Vanill, sweet malts, raspberry, cherry, brandy, caramel, raisin, date, floral hopping, figs, berry, caramel and more. A nose that keeps my ole factor alive and well.

Amazingly complex and showing different flavors layers and layers of flavorsl on each drink I take. Bourbony oak lies on top of everything and smothers it somewhat. Every sip results in a different taste. Hard to describe but delicious and a beer I'd love to have in bottle.
