Picked this up at West Lakeview Liquors - this is about a month old. Served in a Pisgah pint glass.

A - Pours with a surprisingly small head of about a quarter-finger that dissipates to a collar and pizza-like cap. Body is a lightly hazed orange-copper color. There's some pretty decent lacework left behind, which is a redeeming quality.

S - Smells like the usual Flossmoor malt bill, with plenty of toffee and cookie dough. Hops are quite understated, with oranges, berries of the woods, and a light touch of dimebag. The smell doesn't pop, but it's actually quite pleasant.

T - Taste is a little bland - reminds me of toffee or cotton candy, but with some citrus bitterness in the finish. Maybe some bread? Not much to say here, as this isn't good, but isn't bad either.

M - Really slick and oily, with carbonation that is a little low ever for my tastes. Body is sufficiently hefty for 7.5%, but starts to get a little much due to the lack of bubbles.

D - I was able to drink a glass of this one, and wasn't really put off or anything, but at the same time it was largely average, bland, and uninteresting. Skip this one and buy Vishnu's Vice instead.

ight orange amber with a big white pillow like head. Nice carbonation streaming up from the bottom of the glass and a really good amount of lace. Smell was thick orange resin hoppy with a touch of sweetness. The smell was really thick and you could almost feel the hop resin in your nose. The taste was very nice, thick piney and citrus hops with a decent, albeit slight balance with some malty grain and sugary sweetness in the back. Great smooth, easy feel with a nice play on the palate. Overall this was a very fine IPA.

Pours a clear deep golden amber with an off-white head. Some lacing.

Smells of light citrus and pine bitterness mixed with floral hops.

Floral hop bitterness upfront. Bready malts come in at the middle and mellow the bitterness. Bitter grapefruit peel and floral finish. Floral hops give a herbal tea-like flavor. Some off-putting chalky flavor at the finish at times.

Medium bodied and oily with good carbonation.

Not a huge fan of the dominant floral, herbal flavor. One of my least favorite from the Brewer's Whim series.

Served in a DFH signature glass. Beer is amber and clear with a thin that leaves some lacing on the glass.

Aroma is strong with piny hops, smells pretty good.

Beer is medium bodied and has a nice hop bitterness to it. If I were to guess Columbus hops in this one. Its not too sweet, not too piny, its well balanced and finishes with some really nice bitterness. No aftertaste, just a nice drinking IPA.

Reviewed from notes.

Appearance is straw yellow in color, hardly any carb. Smells like hops and some sweet malts. Taste is hops up front, centennial maybe, some sweet malts in the middle and some slight citrus tones. Smooth. This is a solid beer and I could've drank more than one.

I screwed up my first review of a Flossmoor IPA (thought my Mick Jagger was a Freshly Uberhopped), but I'm certain I have this one right.

A - Dark copper-orange, a bit muddy with just a hint of light getting through. Head is soapy and is not retained; lacing minimal.

S - This is actually pretty remarkable smelling. A blast of grapefruit, pineapple, and orange, with full notes of fresh bread and caramel supporting.

T - Something's a bit off. Everything from the nose is present, but out of sync. There's also just a touch of a medicinal flavor that's not helping. Tastes okay, not at all offensive, but from the nose I was expecting very good to great.

M - Very thick for the style, and just shy of being too sticky. Low carbonation also.

D - Easy enough to drink, the alcohol is present enough to keep this from being a gulper. However, the aftertaste becomes more unpleasant as the beer is drunk, making this hard to finish at the very end. Disappointing.

A very generous offering provided to me by BuckeyeNation...thanks B!

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Perfect Pint glass. A single finger of buttery foam formed on top of the sunset amber body. The head's retention time was poor, as was the lacing.

The nose is a crisp, blast of pine and citrus hops. You can detect some bready characters in the background, but the hop aromas are dominant.

Wow...very well balanced...you get the hops up front, but the center finds a sweet, almost caramel malt flavor that negates the bitterness. The bitter hop oils take over the finish providing a fresh, grapefruit-like punch. A little burn from the alcohol warms the throat and chest in the aftertaste.

The mouth feel is medium bodied, slick yet smooth with mild carbonation.

Pretty darn drinkable! Great flavor and nose...recommended for sure!

Appearance: Pours a hazy amber color with a massive head; tight bubbles, nice stickage and lace action

Smell: Caramel and modest grapefruit tones

Taste: Malty caramel arrives early and never fades, though the grapefruity hops hang in there from mid-palate through the finish; a nice perfumy element arrives and lingers in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: I was prepared to dislike this as I am not a fan of sticky, malty IPAs; this one, however, is nicely balanced and though it has quite a malty aspect, it never gets cloying

Glossy pumpkin orange that develops a brassy glow when backlit with morning sunshine. The tight crown of sand colored foam is finely pitting and finely bubbly, and is beginning to deposit thick sheets of finely dotted lace on the upper reaches of the glass. Looks like the appearance is fine all around. Note: amazing rings and sheets of lace prompt a score increase in the end.

The aroma is a pleasing combination of pale-caramel malt and American hops. One source says that primarily Chinook was used. Smells about right. There's also a floral quality that adds another interesting dimension. This should be good beer.

Diesel Rellik tastes and feels more like a Double IPA than an IPA. It's chock full of malt, is sweeter than most IPAs, and isn't a lupulin bomb in terms of either flavor or bitterness. It's definitely well-brewed, but it doesn't fit my preferred profile for the smaller style.

Each mouthful delivers a glassy smooth flow of liquid rock candy, melted caramel, iced tea, white grapefruit zest and pine tree hoppiness. Suggestions for improvement include fewer malt sugar, more hops and a different selection of hops. That's all strictly personal preference, of course.

Despite of an appropriate 'pffft' on cap cracking, DR feels underbubbled. It is, however, incredibly smooth and silky, with no rough edges in sight. More alpha acid rasp would be welcome.

Diesel Rellik is a caramel malted DIPA lover's IPA. For the true hopheads out there, this offering is now barely more than one month of age and is only going to lose hoppiness from here on out. Drink it now if you're sitting on a bomber or two.

My latest Flossmoor IPA, picked up in Chicago 2 weeks ago, 22oz bomber with silver wax. The beer is dark amber colored, clear with a nearly white foam of thin but fine consistency. Caramel malts give strong balance to the soft hops in the aroma. Actually this shares a certain something with other Flossmoor IPAs based on smell, I like to think I could pick out the brewery in a blind test.

The beer is well balanced, too much balance with strong contributions from the malts. I'd like to see a heavier hand in the hops additions, at least based on taste. The aftertaste is chalky-bitter, so definitely you can tell they're there, but still the flavor isn't among my favorites from Flossmoor. The body is nice and light, low carbonation, very easy drinking except for the bitter after-bite.

22 oz light gray wax topped bomber into a tulip glass. Big thanks go to lurchingbeast for hooking me up with a bottle of this latest Flossmoor Brewers Whim entry.

Pours a slightly hazed coppery rose in the glass, with 1 ½ fingers of white colored head which has a bit of a dirty off-look to it. This initially retains with a little less richness than I would have guessed but swirling does fire this up pretty nicely, coating the sides of the glass with sticky froth. The aroma is floral, dank, and herbal smelling in the nostrils, with a touch of pine resins mixed in as well. A sweet bready twang of malt and tropical fruit fill things out in the back, leaving behind a tangy impression of the nose.

Hop bitterness runs through the middle of the profile, being full of earth, spice, citrus peel, and a touch of pine. This is surrounded by a STRONG fruity blend of sweet citrus, bread, and caramel. There seems to be a good bit of bitterness to this but beyond the tropical fruit, the actual hop flavors seem to get pushed to the side by the heavy sweetness that is present, giving the overall effect of a deep herbal tanginess. The finish only reinforces the bitterness of the beer, with a dry and dirty grittiness which lingers for quite a bit on the palate. The mouthfeel is mostly medium bodied, with a creamy and slick presence across the tongue but this just feels a little too light to me in the mouth. Maybe a little too much slickness to this? I don't know. It just seemed to be lacking some overall heft and depth on the palate. I will say that the alocohol was hidden well here, at least helping keep this moderately drinkable.

Well this was certainly an interesting offering (that mix of sweet fruit and earthy bitterness made for a bit of an odd combo) but this latest Flossmoor Station IPA offering left me wanting a little more. There was a lot of sweetness and bitterness present here but they never did really balance each other well, plus the body could have actually used a little more force to it. Not terrible by any means but they've done much better with the IPAs here over the last year.

Aroma:Sweet malt, pine and grapefruit. Also some black tea notes.

Appearance:Deep amber in color, low to medium head retention, nice lacing.

Taste:Pine resin notes come through nicely in the foretaste. The hops actually seem to become more bitter after a few sips, which is strange for me because it usually works the opposite. By the mid taste, the flavor starts to fade, and the aftertaste is very light, and is reminiscent of the black tea notes in the aroma.

Mouthfeel:The body is medium thick, with low carbonation.

Drinkability:This is a pretty unique beer that's very drinkable.

Appearance -- Pours a bright copper, good clarity, with two fingers of sudsy white head that soon dissipate into some random suds and thick lacing.

Smell -- Tropical fruits, some pine resin in the background, but what I find especially interesting is the smell of fresh blueberries. Not especially aromatic, but very nice.

Taste -- Floral and tropical fruity hops abound, but with some earthy pine bitterness. The malts bring some caramel sweetness, but are mostly bready. And again, I pick up an interesting blueberry note that I have yet to sense in a beer that clearly didn't have any blueberries in it.

Mouthfeel -- A little heavier than medium-bodied, moderate creamy carbonation. I've never been disappointed by the mouthfeel on the Brewer's Whim IPA's.

Drinkability -- Sooo happy I finally found more of these Brewer's Whim IPA's at my local bottle shop. They always bring something a little different. This one wasn't mind blowing, but incredibly drinkable. Will NEVER turn down a Flossmoor IPA.

Reddish orange, shot through with sunlight, illuminating it's hazy, unfiltered body. Ring of drippy lacing all around, with a thin wisp of foam across the top that fades quickly into a sticky ring at the edges.

Sweet juicy citrus and toffee in the aroma. Very fresh and a little floral, along with notes of fruity bubblegum.

Resiny bitterness and sticky sweetness intertwine, with a long lasting bitter hop finish. A little undercarbed, leaving it feeling slick. Light tropical accents surface in the taste and aroma as well. Piney hop burps are a neutral side effect. Sufficiently hoppy to satisfy those hop cravings.

It's tasty, not quite as great as 1492, though i'm most looking forward to the new batch of Vishnu due out soon...

Pours a cloudy deep amber color with one finger of head with fairly weak retention.

Scent of sugars, pine, light maple, orange juice, and a hint of grapefruit. Fairly hoppy, but it is too sweet and juicy smelling; it reminds me of a homebrew.

Taste of pine, grapefruit and some caramel. It has a short burst of flavor and then quickly fades to nothing save for a faint hoppiness. It's not a bad beer, but there enough to it to recommend.

Medium bodied and oily with low carbonation.

Had on tap at Flossmoor Station of course! Review from phone notes...

A- Pours a clear golden amber/light copper color. One finger light tan head that has medium retention. Spotty lacing coats the glass while I drink it down.

S- A good amount of citrus hopping on the front of the aroma (grapefruit and orange). Caramel bready malts come in the middle and make a strong presence. Some more earthy bitter piney hops make up the back end of the nose. Plan and simple but very complex at the same time I think.

T- Citrus hops explode from the get go on this beer. There is a light earthy flavor to this from some piney hops in the beer. Bready toffee notes in the middle as the malts seem to shine a little more. Citrusy hops in the back of this take over where the malt flavor let go. Nice grapefruit flavor as the beer is finishing on the palate. Light alcohol in the backing but not over the top.

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is almost perfect for the style. Lots of citrus hops on the palate with some light malts and citrus in the aftertaste. Flavors were crisp and clean. Blended well in the mouth. Light drying on the palate.

D- This was a very good tasting beer that I had no problem drinking. A little bit of both a English IPA with the malts and an American IPA with the west coast citrus hopping. Good IPA overall and recommend to everyone who is thinking about going to Flossmoor for a beer.

This was listed as a special on the chalkboard at floosmoor station brewhouse-- proud to add it here.

Pours a nice clear copper color with 2 fingers
of tan beige head in an imperial pint glass. Beer us bright and clear with respectable thick lacing. Smell has huge toffee malts and toasted bread on the malt front with a big hoppy presence-- mostly orange, grapefruit, pine, and floral notes. Sweet caramel comes in on towards the finish. This is a solid IPA-- but this seems to really towards the British styleore so
than the American.

Medium body with adequate carbonation. Easy to drink-- but
more sessionable like the English variety as opposed to the hugely hop front American versions.

A good beer that will only get better with fute
batches.
