No date on the can, but this eccentrically named brown ale from Arboretum Trail is brewed with honey. Anyway...
Damn near three fingers of light khaki head take shape over a red body. Looks more like an amber ale than a brown, but I'm willing to play along. Head diminishes quick but there's a lot of streaky lace left in its wake. Smells like honeyed toast. Maybe some light cocoa notes if you pull deep. There's kind of a sharp hop (or something) note too. Something green that, you know, grows outdoors. *shrug* Smells better than I'm making it sound. Tastes, not surprisingly, like a honeyed brown ale. You really do get a lot of honey flavor. There's also a cocoa note on the tongue that could just be from a combination of the honey and malt. Pleasant flavor profile. Drinks a little thin, but I kind of expected that. I think I read somewhere that yeast treats honey like a simple sugar and thus thins beers out. It's got a nice snappy carbonation, though, that suits matters just fine. This is a perfectly pleasant beer.
