Poured from the can into a Libbey style pilsner glass.

Big gleaming and crystal gem clear 14 karat gold yellow beaming body. A great perfect linear carbonation of slow bubbles, reaching to a frothy and creamy looking bleach white head. Three easy fingers of whipped cream, and island puck retention, it settles real nicely and slowly. Excellent looking lager.

Crisp and clean aroma. Fairly neutral with a little bit of spicy hop play. Malt angle seems a bit quiet with a touch of light sweet honey character, but is otherwise mellow.

Palate does well. Simple enough malt depth gives a good foundation for flavor, maybe even a hint of lively carbonation. Creamy sensing flavors of light herbs and dark toast. There's even a touch of caramel sweetness lingering in here which is a great surprise, particularly in the finish. Clean and crisp ending in the aftertaste, which brings out just a hint of toffee like crackling dryness.

Real nice light festbier with an excellent flavor. Nicely done.

Like the other beers in the 2020 Costco beer Advent calendar, there isn't a lot of info about what exactly this is supposed to be. Though some of the other beers seemed to have been from other little breweries in Bavaria, this one seems to have always been one of Egerer's. It also is more like marzen made in the US, so I hope I classified it correctly. I'm drinking this at room temperature - it seems right for these Germans.

It pours light to medium brown and is somewhat opaque. There is very little foam or fizz. It has just a little malty smell, but I think if you drank it cold there would be very little smell. The taste is a bit maltier than the German marzens I've had, as indicated by the color. Unfortunately, it is still a bit wimpier tasing than the US versions, but still good. There isn't much hops taste or smell. The finish is clean and you get a nice malty burp.

Recommended. This is a absolutely authentic brew (it proudly wears the year 1516), but as such, don't expect to be overwhelmed with anything exceptional, the ingredients were prescribed 504 years ago!
