Poured from the can into a Libbey style pilsner glass.
Great looking lager. Deep and bright brass gold, like a metallic shine and nearly crystal clear and ultra fine carbonation in places. Frothy and rich creamy bright white head, with thick retention. Chunk hitting lacing and sheets of foam and rock clumping head appearances. A whole island and mountain is in that glass and barely budging. Big looking aggressive lager, love it.
This aroma is really pleasant. Nice hop forward and slightly aggressive. Interesting angle, has the typical German spicy noble touch, but also some classic grass herbs and sweet earth… almost getting into dank territory. It's hop forward thus not giving much malt character, but does give a bit of bakery notes and bread like flavor. All in all it makes for a far better than average lager aroma, particularly for a German one.
Palate takes a bit of a hit from a slightly wet mouthfeel. Mineral mid body, with a wet but luckily not totally watery consistency. Light honey in feel and some degree of taste, but controlled spiced herb like hops in the mid palate. Crispness and cleanliness is dumbed down a bit, but still makes in roads, with no faults or off putting flavors. Aftertaste has a bit of white bread and toast, but very light also.
The aroma and appearance lead one to think your in for something special, so it's sort of a letdown on the palate, but not terribly that's for sure.

I brought all the Costco Advent calendar beer in from the garage in case it gets cold (not forecast). There isn't much alcohol in these and they might freeze. I hoped this one might be something different. Not so much.
It's an authentic German pilsener, light golden color, translucent, with really nice fizz. The aroma is strong - finishing hops and malts. The taste is clean and refreshing. Extremely easy drinking. Just a tad of aftertaste, slightly bitter.
Recommended. This is not the "special" beer I wanted, but it is more interesting than some of the others in the Costco set.
