Copenhagen 6/4 2019. 33 cl bottle from Meny, Borups Allé, Frb F. Black label with scratchy white writing and a Green bowler hat. Seems like they are celebrating St. Patricks day. Bitburger's take on looking very small and Craft Beer-like. Takes quite a effort if you happens to be of the biggest breweries in Germany.
Pours hazy golden amber with a medium-sized white head. Stable. Settles as 1 cm thick layer of dense foam crawling up the sides of the glass. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is intense with light notes of exotic fruit soon overcome by an almost brutal, sharp sourness. Sharp citrus. Light sweet notes of butter rummaging in the background.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, texture.
Flavor is medium sweet followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with a slightly weaker underlying bitterness. Semi-dry finish.
Not the most convincing IPA. And not very imperial.

330ml bottle, poured into La Chouffe chalice.
A: Large, thick, foamy head which hung around for a while and left some lacing.
S: Lot's of grapefruit and slight hints of wheat.
T: Followed the nose with some bitter strawberry, hid the booze well.
M: Crisp texture, low carbonation.
O: Not the best Double IPA but it was drinkable.

Pours a cloudy, deep amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of doughy, slightly caramelly malt and citrus/tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit and papaya, as well as some floral accents. Taste is a good balance of doughy, slightly caramelly malt and fruity, bitter, slightly floral and resinous hops, with citrus and tropical notes of grapefruit, papaya and pineapple, as well as just a hint of pine also coming through. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grapefruit, papaya and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
I had pretty low expectations of this and while it's certainly not great, it was still better than expected. While it's a bit too sweet and floral for my personal taste, a pretty common thing with these supermarket IPAs, there's a good hoppiness to this overall, with some nice fruity, bitter and resinous notes as well, although it's a bit boozy, but with a decent mouthfeel as well. It actually reminds me a lot of a stronger version of the Oettinger Reeper B IPA, another decent, but not great supermarket option.

It has a weird, yolky sediment that I've seen in a few other German IPAs. Very unappealing. Aromas are grassy and a bit of caramel malt. Taste is also of grassy hops with strong malt support, but still with a moderate bitterness at the end.

Pours a very nice light orange colour, but the little head that was there disappeared very quickly. Carbonation is lacking. The smell really reminds me of Schneider Weisse Tap 5, which is interesting for a beer that's supposed to be an IPA. Citrus, peach, and what seems like a Belgian style yeast are the strongest odours. The taste, again, is very similar to Tap 5. The hop profile is incredibly complex, obviously attributable to the 7 types of hops in this brew. Pine, citrus, very slight floral - it's all there. The carbonation is very creamy and this beer goes down like water (except for the incredible acidity, which burns my weak stomach). This beer is very good for a German American IPA. They're getting better at it!

Bitburgers attempt at faking being a part of the craft scene
Very cloudy bright orange with huge chunks of floating sediment. Not much visible rising carbonation but a healthy 2 finger head.
S: It does smell like an IPA, but with a funny, maybe metallic sourness. scent is fairly faint.
T: good, light IPA, but still has this weird, semi artificial citrus flavor. like minty orange.
M: Very smooth and light. slight sour zing
O: better than many german IPAs
