Half pour at the source
Dark black in color with a huge frothy tan head that persists. Rich roasty caramel chocolate and brown sugary maltiness with hints of earth dark fruits and licorice. Nice beer!

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a black color with a two finger tan foamy head. Some semi-thick lace roamed around the glass nicely. The aroma had some raisins, roasted malts, mild milk chocolate, some sweet oats, light butterscotch and a brief damp wood. The flavor leaned towards the sweet side slightly but developed some roast and a light bitterness as it warmed. Aftertaste was semi-sweet with the roast coming across fairly nice. Finish was mildly quick and sweet. The palate was about medium bodied with a pretty good sessionable sort of smooth feel roaming all around my tongue. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good and warming. Overall, pretty nice stout borderline to an Imperial, but still worthy of having again.

Sampled from the growler on December 27, 2014.
It has a rich black pour with a soft lingering tan head.
The aroma is mainly dark malts, a hint of chocolate, and perhaps some burnt or dark fruit. Not much in the way of hops on the nose.
A nice medium to full body.
The taste is mainly roasted dark malts and that is a good thing but there is a nice earthy bitter bite the creeps up on the backside and lingers momentarily. A little muted chocolate. Tasty and worth trying if you get to this brewery.
