I’d call it chestnut, clearly hazy, capped with a healthy cream head.
Shades of Doppelbock is what I get initially, things like candied nuts and rich malt.
There’s a surprising flavor of butterscotch. I’m not sure I’ve encountered noticeable diacetyl in a lager before. There’s also a crisp side with a clean bitterness and light leafy flavor.
It’s heavier like a Doppelbock might be, but has a unique slickness that seems like a reflection of the diacetyl. It’s plenty carbonated for the style.
Zoigl is often a darker style of lager to begin with, but this company makes a Zoigl and a Zoigl Dunkles. I wish I’d bought the normal now to compare, but I only had so much suitcase space. It’s an interesting one, could use a little less diacetyl, but is certainly along the lines of the style.
