For those who want the hazier character of IPA but want to take their foot off of the pedal when it comes to flavor, alcohol and overall intensity, The Brew Bridge answers the call with a new school Pale Ale.
Pale and foggy with lemony straw hues, New School builds a creamy and lofty froth before spilling onto the senses with citrus, herb and hints of wine and vanilla. A smooth and creamy-sweet flavor coats the early palate with the lighter suggestions of shortcake, cream of wheat, agave and another hint of vanilla cream.
But the hops billow above the persistent cereal grains with a bright and nearly tangy flavor lemon, white grape, passionfruit, papaya and white grapefruit. Racy and just shy of bitter, the flavors trend herbal in a most green tea kind of way. Spicy with lemongrass, verbena, sassafras and hemp, the late taste shows a balancing bitterness and a waver of grain.
Medium bodied and seeming a tad thin on the finish, the beer concludes with an smooth and herbal bite to offset the creamy grain starches and carry the session into a citrusy and winey aftertaste that includes a medley of gin-like botanicals to close.
