Thoroughly enjoyed our (The Little Lady and Myself) outing to this quaint brewery.
The staff and service was top notch, the brewer beyond knowledgeable and engaging,
and the selection coupled with the quality and attention to detail in the craft exceptional.
Book centric and style appropriate with a couple of hybrids in there for good measure,
Codex brewing lives up to their moniker of "Crafting Something Different". I could not
agree more, yet the balance is on spot with nothing beating a single chord to death.
From barley wine to fest, dry hopped pale to saison, all were excellently presented.
Looking forward to visiting again and enjoying a stout or three when they have
some to offer.
Keep and eye on this brewery, they have a lot to offer and I can guarantee not to
disappoint!
Cheers

It may feel a little awkward upon your first venture into the space, mainly because its vibe is very much like someone's home, but it's a nice home all the same. Because of the set up, other conversations are maybe a little too audible, though, which may also be a result of very thorough sound dampening combined with a lack of music. While it's spacious inside, it's also basically one room, so I could see it being rather cacophonous with a less considerate set up than the one they've engineered. There’s still a boob tube on the bar back with sports droning along, but the main draw here is their brew, which is decent to quite good.
Clean, crisp, and well made to style, I find myself shocked to include their saisons within that impression. Locally, we aren't known for the style, and most breweries around here who dabble in it tend to make a de facto hefe or wit without realizing the similarity, calling it a saison upon completion because that's what they set out for it to be. If not that, then the result is often an acid bomb. So when I hear the word saison used by a brewery in NEO, it's kind of a dirty word to me.
However, Codex went and boldly put 4 saisons on draft during my visit, which was about a 1/3 of their list, so I couldn't help but run them through the gauntlet. To my pleasant surprise, they were delicate yet complex with a mild yeast interplay that deftly avoided any huge clove or acid components. The other styles I had were on point as well, with one even being a take on the largely forgotten East Coast IPA (before the haze took over).
The brewer was engaged with all patrons who were open to chat, and even took orders at their tables, bringing them their beer if he wasn’t busy. They keep it flowing here without being aggressive, and for the locals who seem to have already turned this into a nightly jaunt, what more could you ask for?
