16oz can picked up at the source in Hillsboro, OR
Poured into a Sierra Nevada imperial pint

P deep chestnut w/ a massive, billowy 4f khaki head; lots of active carb
N soft-med nose of grassy notes and some sweet grainy malt
T lots grassy notes, light nuttiness, grainy malt, and yeast; a bit of char in the finish
Mf light-med bodied w/ med carb
O not my fave schwarzbier, but not too bad; could use a touch more toastiness/sweetness, imo; lack of freshness may have affected this experience, so may revisit in the future if I come across a fresher batch

Look: Looks like coffee on the pour and jet black in the glass with a tan and foamy head that slowly recedes to form a pillow, leaving great lacing behind as it does

Aroma: Toasted bread, roast, dark chocolate, spicy hop notes, brewing coffee, and warm bread

Taste: Opens up with a blast of roast and dark chocolate that hit hard and are quickly followed by waves of warm and toasted bread. The spicy hops come cutting through the malt as their strength wanes and then go back and forth until it closes

Mouthfeel: Full but light, clean, medium-high carbonation, and crisp and clean on the finish

Overall: I dig it. This is a good Schwarzbier and one I must have missed earlier but glad to have finally found. It checks the style boxes well and the Super Saaz definitely comes through with its spiciness to counterbalance the malt. My cans were 5 months old though and from a place that often has beer on warm shelves at times so I would love to try this fresh, although it is still a solid beer

16oz can. Bottom date stamp reads '10/09/24'.
Deep brown colored body, with a brown back lit edge. One finger of light tan head, and this extends itself as a full cap. Leaves behind partial walls of lacing.
Aroma of sweet toasted malts with smells of caramel and cocoa.
Taste is sweet malts but tempered by the bitterness of floral and spicy hops. Flavors of cocoa, caramel, and orange blossoms. Toasted grain malts in the aftertaste, with a little balance of bitterness.
More than medium mouthfeel, with a creamy texture. Drying finish. Excellent carbonation.
Smooth bite along with the sweetness of the toasted grain malts. Good example of a dark lager.
