Harmonious blend of spicy malt notes, with fragrant hop notes. The creamy maltiness that is enhanced by subtle hints of spice and caramel adding depth.

Poured from a can into a pilsner glass.

Look: Light yellow with a thick, white head. Fair head retention and lacing.

Smell: Malty sweetness. Cracker. Perhaps a very light citrus note. Some honey sweetness. Raw dough.

Taste: Just a touch drier than the nose would lead you to believe, otherwise it's mostly the same notes. Caramel.

Feel: It's quite fizzy. Lighter body.

Overall: It's fine, but doesn't seem to be anything special to my palate. This would work well as something to drink with dinner.

Appearance: clear golden to light amber with a bright white head that is generally full but fades at a moderate pace; lacing varies from light to moderate

Aroma: malt-forward with notes of honey, biscuit, and toasted grain; subtle hints of citrus, floral hops, and light fruit such as orange or apple

Taste: balanced and approachable with sweet malt and cereal-like grain at the forefront; gentle hop bitterness provides structure with light notes of citrus, floral character, and mild fruit sweetness; overall clean and moderately simple profile

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with moderate carbonation; smooth and easy-drinking with a slightly crisp finish

Overall: a well-crafted German-style lager that leans malt-forward and highly drinkable, with a clean and balanced profile; enjoyable and sessionable, though somewhat restrained and not especially complex

500ml can from Costco's Biergarten Collection mixed 24-pack picked up in Missoula, MT; first experience with this brewery
Poured into a Level Belgian-style tulip

P gold w/ a dense 2f white head; very faint lace left behind
N med to med-bold sweet grainy malt, honey, and just a touch of mellow orange
T follows nose; great combo of lightly toasted grainy malts, honey, and a bit of orange; simple but very tasty
Mf med-bodied w/ med carb; suits the profile well
O really nicely done and hugely drinkable brew; not entirely sure what makes it a winter bier, but I dig it nonetheless; could drink a lot of it, tbh

Name: Rhaner Winter Bier
Brewery: Rhanerbräu GmbH & Co.
Location: Schonthal, Germany
Style: Marzen
ABV: 5.2%
Canned: 04 January 2025
Date: 23 November 2025
The last beer from the box was a Marzen. I am using a pint glass and serving the beer at 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy, airy, foamy two-fingered head with excellent retention. The slow dissipation left lacing chunks on the glass. The color is pale yellow with light golden hues, clear, and charts at SRM 4. The beer's appearance is above average.
Nosing the beer, I detect notes of lightly toasted malts, caramel, floral bouquet, grassy notes, and malty sweetness.
The flavors are floral, grassy, floral esters, caramel, white pepper, light resin, light herbal, lightly toasted malts, bready, and a malty sweetness.
The mouthfeel is slightly astringent, finishing crisp and smooth. The body is medium and medium carbonation.
Final Thought: I do not know what a winter bier is, but this has a Marzen vibe. I think of a lager with winter spices with a thicker malt profile. The beer still tastes good.

Rhanerbräu GMBH & Co. "Rhaner Winter Bier"
500 ml can coded "P: 20/05/2025 E:20/11/2016 18:41:49 20". Sampled on 22/10/2025
$59.99 / 24 can case - Costco's Biergarten Collection, Costco, Christiana, DE

Notes via stream of consciousness: So what is this? "Winter beer" could be anything. Ahh! And it's poured a clear golden body - certainly not what I was expecting of a "winter beer" - maybe it's spiced? The head is a full cap of bright white foam and it seems to be holding well. I'm not finding any spice in the aroma, simply sweetish malt and a bit of apple and sweet red berry-like fruitiness. On to the taste then... it tastes like a standard golden ale to me. Maybe that's the ticket? It's an ale, so that makes it a winter beer? There's not a lot to it, but OK, whatever. It's got to be low gravity, how strong is it? Ahhh, it's labeled at 5.2% ABV, stronger than I was expecting based on the taste and body. A moderate bitterness balances the malt that's there nicely, and it finishes dry but not bitter. It is possible that maybe there's a tiny bit of nutmeg added to it but I don't know, I'm probably just conjuring that up in my imagination. If there is something there it's really minor. In the mouth it's medium-light in body and gently crisp with a moderate, fine-bubbled carbonation that leaves it smooth. I think this would be a great summer beer but what do I know? They've got over 275 years of brewing tradition so I'll have to trust them.

From the half liter can in the 2025 Costco Biergarten Collection, it pours a clear light golden color with a very nice white head that reduces. The nose gets a nice clean malty scent, followed by the mouth getting a slightly spicy, pleasantly malty brew. Finish is ever so slightly bitter, very nice. Creamy mouthfeel and easy to drink.

Handsome clear golden amberbrew with abundant foam in the Hopleaf goblet. Creamy mouthfeel with lush carbonation. Clean and spicy with a fair amount of malty flavors. Tastes of bread and cereal, like Cheerios, with a leafy herbal note. Just a slight bitterness in the finish that is quite welcome, but it's not overlry sweet. This is really a kind of Festbier, and more on the maltier Märzen side. This is another excellent German beer in the Biergarten mixed case from creative distributor Webster Barnes.

Clear golden body, thin but persistent head, mild lacing
Medium mouthfeel
Distinct malt aroma, distinct hops taste but no bite. Very German, very tasty. I could drink a few liters of this.
Website says this Winter Bier is seasonal, only produced around Chrstmas time. Schade!
Also from a costco mixer.
