Pitch black. Negligible head. General porter/stout smell. Some milk sugar flavor. Gentle coffee and cacao flavor. Not too much bitterness for a stout. Mild and sweet. Gentle texture. Stouts aren't exactly my scene, but this does seem like a cozy alternative to a cup of coffee on a lazy day.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a one finger khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, chocolate, coffee and a hint of caramel. Flavor of dark toasted malt with moderate char, milk chocolate, coffee and a touch of lactose. Long, lingering charry mocha finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. An outstanding, straightforward stout with a quite pleasant char flavor to the malt and quality chocolate and coffee notes. The flavor starts full and remains solid throughout the taste, leaving a satisfying, lingering finish. This is the season for stout overload, and I'm actually starting to burn out on flavored and pastry stouts. It is really nice to come back to a basic, well made stout with coffee and chocolate from the malt itself. Nicely done. I'm checking out any stouts they make in the future.

never have i ever had a beer from these guys (and/or gals), or even heard of them, so it was cool to encounter this at community pint in spokane, who always gets the heady stuff and delivers it to the people, i could live there. anyway this one is simple in a good way, roasty and deep, no skimping on the darkest of the roasted malts, charcoal and light smoke and wet soil and warming cozy coffee, this instantly hits for winter to my senses, no sign of its alcohol, i dont miss it, but a lot of these show it, so i am impressed right away from what seems like a quality standpoint. the flavor is similarly straight ahead, coffee and roast, less bitterness to the grain too though, nothing burnt, and no real middle depth, its just the low end with the coffee, and i cherish it for not trying to do too much, less can be more, and this is a showcase of that, and then by extension also of the brewer, who clearly knows whats up! an insanely good first impression here, and i now need to source more of their beers. this was great, highly refined, well balanced, and unique without forcing it. i will be back for more!
