We proudly present our first ever Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stouts.

Praying Mantis is a Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout made from a select blend of four exceptional bourbon barrels: three from Woodford Reserve and one from Heaven Hill. During our tastings, these four barrels stood out, earning high marks for their spirit quality, chocolate character, and unique flavors like vanilla, wood tannins, and caramelized sugar.
To enhance these flavors, we added a generous amount of vanilla beans from Indonesia, Comoros, and Madagascar, allowing them to infuse the beer over time. The result is a special, balanced bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout that’s both classic and modern.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a quarter finger, persistent dark khaki head. Aroma of dark toasted malt, vanilla, cocoa, woody oak and mild bourbon. Flavor is dark toasted malt with sight char, chocolate, vanilla, woody oak and light bourbon; somewhat hot finish with residual oak, chocolate, vanilla and bourbon. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Another solid barreled stout from K&D. Like Ladybird, this one has a malt body that feels a little thin for the size of the stout, but also is full flavored with a winning profile. There was a lot of vanilla on the nose, but it was well balanced in the flavor. Nice oaky barrel character too. They have a fine start to their barreling program with these two stouts; I wish I'd picked up another of this one.
