Located in a historical building, a former livery stable that's nearly a century old. Inside it’s open and airy, with a seating area in front, a horseshoe-shaped bar in back, with the brewery on the right side. Interestingly it’s all open, with no separation between brewery and taproom. Huge metal beams frame the space, with brick walls, and older windows. Lanterns high on the wall with nautical decor that gives off a cozy vibe. The marble topped bar was fitted with wooden trim, forming a comfortable groove around the edges. No rail, but the high seats had comfy cushions, not the usual cheap metal stools.
21 taps, 6 house beers. Beer list was printed with informative descriptions. 4-5-6 beer sampler trays available. The house beers covered an interesting range, from traditional to experimental. Highlights included the Sahti and a Citra “hop water” which was a nice NA palate cleanser. Seemed to be a good rotation of house beers, the quality was mostly good. The brewer/owner was tinkering with the brewhouse system, but wasn’t big on conversation. I said hello and that i’d recognized him from the homebrew shop earlier, hoping to chat about the new brewery. “Ok” and a blank stare was all I got. A weird antisocial dude.
The bartender was much more friendly and engaged us about the beers. Overall the bar service was good. I thought they said they filled crowlers, but wound up with a growler instead. $12 was a pretty affordable fill. I’d return again to try other beers, as they are constantly rotating with many guest taps as well. Now that Racine Brewing around the corner has abruptly closed, Littleport is the only brewery in town.
