Oso Brew Co. “Westie”
440 ml can without production codes or freshness dating
Notes via stream of consciousness: This is brewed with Cascade, Columbus, and Simcoe hops to 55 IBUs with US-05 yeast. It’s 6.2% ABV. The body is a hazy golden beneath a thumb’s width of white foam. In the nose it’s surprisingly lemony in its citrus component, floral, and earthy. The taste brings in the expected piney and resinous notes as well as a little bit of earthiness and spiciness, and a malt that’s lightly sweet and supportive to the hop flavors. 55 IBUs seems right on for what they’ve got going on and it’s nicely balanced with a dry finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and crisp with a standard, fine-bubbled carbonation. The head held up well and it’s left some very nice broken walls of lace behind. As a guy who’s been there to see the rise of West Coast IPAs I can say that they haven’t got it quite right BUT this is very good.
