a solid seasonal offering here, one of their more traditional beers in here, everything else was so creative and ambitious. this is maybe a shade darker than is customary but still has its rusty orange glow and frothing off white head, high clarity, looks great. the aroma is sweet, long boiled, concentrated on the malt side, but also with that warming autumnal earthy kilned character, as well as quite a bit of sweetness, maple and toffee come to mind. light candied almond to it as well, and a rather classic german lager yeast strain deployed appropriately. the flavor is deep on the malt side, not quite as sweet as it smells, baked and hearty though, a honey note now, quite traditionally german on the malt profile, just maybe a little beefier than a lot of the imports, clean on the ferment, nicely lagered, still some residual sugar, but its okay in this style. this has flavor elements of a vienna lager too, a nutty depth, and a fuller body for the style. overall this was solid, quite well executed and nice on a chilly early fall evening. i was impressed with this place, tons and tons of beers covering a huge range of styles, lots of fun seasonal stuff too. this was well done.
