I love Irish Reds and was excited to see this. But to me it misses the mark of what I like in Irish beers. It for me lacks a lot of the malty flavors. The hop bitterness was about right, but with every sip I keep waiting for the malty back of the nose aroma and taste. The nose is okay and the mouthfeel is good. But overall it just misses the mark.

maybe justb a tad high in alcohol for the style, but this is solid, a very true to style irish red with the right yeast, a soft malty sweetness to it, deep earthy character, and a nice fall palate overall, well done here. brick red in color, low shine to it, short off white head, looks about right. the nose has some minerals to it, that wet bread yeast thing i like from the irish ale strain, but its nice and cleanly fermented too it seems, not as sweet to me as a lot of these are, and just slightly herbal too, maybe a hint of raisin in the mix, familiar and right. the flavor is the same, i like how the malt drives it but the yeast is right there, ive always loved the fermentation profile of an irish red, and they do a nice job with it in this. lightly nutty, a little sweet and caramelized, but earthen too, clay and minerals and fallen leaves, definitely autumnal, very light on the hops but some balancing bitterness is present. good texture, lighter body for the color, the alcohol isnt a problem, and the carbonation is there. i liked this one a lot, probably my favorite of the recent beers i had from these guys when i was in helena last week.
