Tap room pour. Served chilled in a 10oz goblet glass.
Black colored body. Light tan head that lingers as an island and a creamy ring. Leaves behind extensive lacing sheeting.
Aroma of toasted chocolate malts and an appearance of pine resin.
Taste is a balance of sweet and bitter. Flavors of toasted chocolate malt, with a hint of char. From midpoint on the hops come in, with flavors of pine resin and citrus. The blend lingers into the aftertaste.
Medium mouthfeel. Dry finish which tugs on the tongue. Good carbonation.
Fits for style, and maintains a good balance.

From a 750ml crawler filled 4-25-2023 consumed on 4-27-2023
Very dark brown pouring, with hints of amber shining through the glass when held up to the light. There's a ton of carbonation that forms a 5 finger tan head in the glass, and it wasn't an aggressive pour. The head looks quite fluffy and frothy with smaller bubbles. Very long head retention, which makes it difficult to fill the glass. Good lacing on the glass when it does dissipate.
When the head finally dissipated enough to get a nose off the beer, I get some licorice. This is an IPA, black IPA, but it's very malty smelling. I do get a bit of hops coming through on the nose, but slight. The hops have a faint pine aroma.
The flavor is where the hops come through more. I do get some pine from them, and this flavor lasts throughout. I also get a good malt bill here. I am getting some licorice with the bread/biscuit. Bitterness hits pretty good on the way back.
The body of this beer seems pretty decent and full. The beer is somewhat sticky feeling.
This is a style that doesn't seem to be made much anymore, but it's one I like, and this is a tasty representation of the style.
