Appearance - Pours deep, nigh black color with deep chocolate brown where light can penetrate. Tan, finger width head that holds decently before dying down to a thin, broken layer of surface suds, forming a ring on the outer edge. Minimal lacing, mostly consisting of small spotting clinging to the glass.
Smell - Earthy. Coffee. Dark chocolate. Maybe a hint of dark fruit?
Taste - Follows the nose. Earthen bitterness upfront with coffee, coffee grounds and dark chocolate, then lightens to reveal a touch of dark fruitiness (black cherry?) as it hits mid-taste and pushes quickly into the finish.
Mouthfeel - The killer. It's light-to-medium in body with very low carbonation. Slick at first but quickly turns a flat, watery finish.
Overall - As with the other two Darkheart brews I tried tonight, the body is severely lacking. I don't know if this a rushed production issue because they just re-opened in a new location after their original location closed, but it's not a good first impression.
