Just below average carbonation with a slightly thin body. Overall a pleasing feel with the wheat coating the tongue and lingering
Aroma is wheat, orange, banana, spice, grainy sweet bread
Taste is very similar to aroma with the wheat getting stronger in the finish and lingers.
Got this in a 24 mixed box from costco and it was worth the try

Principle: get into Costco's (Kalea's) Advent Calendar and you quickly get beer reviews on BA. In fact, all 12 reviews came from BA'ers: 2 are from being included in the 2017 Calendar and the balance from the 2019 Calendar (albeit two reviewers were so eager that they couldn't wait for the beginning of Advent.)

As for this Blau Weisse rated to-style, its Looks are not above average; but sufficient foam to encourage me to drink. Smells also are average: I get the banana and fruit generated by wheat, but no Wow here. Tastes improve because all ingredients come together smoothly; an integrated hefe in which the producers are not beginners piecing together the yeast puzzle. My mouth detects a nice, soft wheat and sufficient bubbles to cleanse the palate for an enjoyable lunch.

A family brewery for 150 years.... again. Despite being in Munich for a few days and doing some research on each brewery, this pattern of family brewing following a recipe formula in small towns today seems familiar to us who grew up in the American micro-revolution... at least as far as we used hops. Anyway for the Hohenthammer Mom 'n Pop shop, I give them Big OA Hugs for continuing the craft culture shoulders upon which Americans now stand.

Pours a cloudy golden yellow color. thick three finger sudsy head collapses quickly leaving a partial layer of foam and lots of sticky white lacing.

Aroma has notes of bubblegum, banana, wheat, flower-y hops and some grassy notes.

Taste has some strong spicy clove notes up front. Banana, bubble gum and wheat cascade across the palate. There is a certain sweetness to this one that seems a bit out of place, but it is somewhat balanced out by the spicy clove and nutmeg notes.

Feel is light bodied, smooth and easy drinking with some vivacious carbonation.

Overall this is about as basic and sanitized a Hefe as you can get. Theres nothing wrong with it, it just is a lesser example of the style.

Poured from 50 cL can into shaker pint glass. Exp 05/2021 stamped on the bottom of the can.
A: Pours a slightly hazy lemon yellow hue with high carbonation producing a 2+ inch frothy white head with excellent retention.
S: A quick dash of banana and clove up front, quickly followed by sweet melon, honey, and cinnamon.
T: Soft banana and clove. Hints of honey and cinnamon.
M: Light body. Soft and supple feel. Wheat smoothness. Spot on sweetness for style.
D: Very nice example of style. Simple and straightforward. Great sessionability.

500mL can, EXP 05/2021. #2 of the 2019 Advent calendar from Costco. Hazy yellow- golden body is capped by a gigantic ivory head. Typical hefeweizen aroma with a banana accentuated along with wheat, clove, bubble gum, citrus, and spicy German hops. Good balanced flavors similar to the aroma. Medium body, ample carbonation, balanced finish. Very good German Hefeweizen comparable to many of the more well known breweries.

Very hazy, cloudy pale gold body. Small white head.

Flavors are floral and medicinal - like chamomile, with some light citrus and cloves. The carbonation is medium heavy and very appropriate.

Awesome beer.

Look: It pours cloudy yellow towards the orange side and a fluffy white head. Head retention is excellent.

Smell: It has aromas of bananas and spice. There are some dough and clove aromas as well.

Taste: There is a flavor balance between the banana, clove, and dough. There is a slight citrusy bite to it as well.

Feel: It has a medium, creamy body. There is a little bit of a sweet and bitter finish.

Overall, an interesting citrus addition makes this a bit different from the basic Weissbier.

A: Pours a cloudy golden honey in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate bright orange + golden yellow + apricot colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense sudsy light beige head that slowly reduces to a handful of small patches of medium thick film surrounded by a medium to large patch of thin film, a large patch of slightly mottled very thin film, and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Just shy of moderate aromas of banana + clove over the top of light to moderate aromas of bready + wheat malts with a light amount of grainy sweetness. Hints of grassy hops.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of bready + wheat malts with a light amount of grainy sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of banana + clove . Finally there are light flavors of grassy hops which contribute a hint of bitterness which lingers in the finish.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly soft in the finish.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol. Hints all of the elements of the style but all of them are slightly less intense than expected with the exception of the grassy hops.

Second can in the Costco/Kalea 2019 Brewer's Advent calendar.
Decanted from a 16.9 oz (500 ml) can into a custom taster pint; exp 05/2021.
A: Pours an ever so slightly hazy (I do not think it is chill haze), golden color with a nearly two finger, white head, rim retention, and broad and soapy lacing.
S: Tangy/tart with aromas of cherry, caramel, vanilla, and toffee.
T: Semisweet. Flavors of cherry, caramel, plantain, vanilla, and cloves. Relatively light, highly balanced, bitterness.
M: Light bodied with light carbonation. Perhaps a touch watery, though, but on the plus side refreshing.
O: A delicious and flavorful German Hefeweizen, perfect for the second day of December (or earlier).

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance- The beer pours a hazed orange amber color with a one finger head of fizzy white foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a good sum of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is rather strong of a bready smell mixed with lots of banana, clove and some yeast. Along with these smells comes a little bit of a hay and grass smell and a touch of caramel.
Taste – The taste begins with a rather crisp but bready flavor that has a moderate showing of wheat and some citrus orange and banana sweetness. As the taste advance the citrus fades a bit all while the banana gets more and more potent and is joined by some of the spice that was detected in the nose. The spice is mainly clove in nature, but there is some coriander and lemongrass in there as well. With a little increase in the wheat and a bit of yeast and some hay, one is left with a wheaty and somewhat fruity (banana and citrus) spiced flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is moderate in thickness and chewiness with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the style and the abv, with the somewhat crisp, but yet fruity and wheaty flavor the feel was a nice middle ground allowing all the tastes to be experienced and appreciated, all while maintain a very easy drinking feel.
Overall – This is a quite nice hefe. I like the crisp feel and big banana and spice flavors. Well done!!!

From Costco. In Teku glass. Playing Tumbleseed, then Duke Grabowski. With the flu. Typical notes of style pretty weak and higher than usual herbal/grassyness. High carbonated feel and flat flavor profile

From the Kalea Bier Advents Kalender. From the bottle, it pours a hazy amber with a small head, soon dissipating to a ring and it does leave a bit of lacing. Wheatbier scent. The mouth gets a bit of hops in with the bready fruit flavor.

2019 update: no change
