L: Dark amber, a little bed redish colour, clear, with some foam, with remains for about half a minute.
S: First smell: Bread, grain, as if you smell freshly harvested grain, and toffee/ caramel. Second smell: also a bit bitter, but not in a fruity way; it smells a tiny bit like Becherovka- so rather herbal.
T: On the tip of the tongue, it doesn´t taste as sweet as one might expect from a Bockbier, more like bread. It tastes more like However, on the middle tongue, one could still feel that sweet maltiness and caramel. Then, there comes the hops- so a bitterness, but in a little bit spicy, herbal way. In the end, the taste of toasted dark bread and grains remains, along with some subtle sweetness.
F: Not much carbonated, as most Franconian beers. Quite a fresh taste for a Bockbier.
O: A rather unusual Bockbier, as it is not as sweet as many other Bockbiere. The little bit spicy, herbal smell and taste pairs rather nicely with the subtle maltiness.

Pours a crystal clear, deep copper coloration with a large, foamy head and visible carbonation. Smells of bready, grainy, slightly toasted and caramelly malt and grassy, herbal hops. Taste is a great balance of bready, grainy, slightly toasted and caramelly malt and grassy, herbal, quite spicy hops, with just a hint of dark fruit and licorice also coming through. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some bready malt and herbal hops lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
What I really like about this is that it's not as sweet as some Bocks, feeling a bit more dry, bitter and herbal, although there is a light sweetness creeping in from the mild caramel malt and fruity accents. There's quite a nice bready, grainy and toasted malt character to this, reminiscent of pumpernickel bread, and while the focus is clearly on those malts, the bitter, herbal and spicy hops balance this out quite nicely, making for a quite enjoyable brew that feels flavorful, yet easy-drinking.

From the half liter bottle, it pours amber with a small head into the mug (never a glass - gasp!). Malty flavor with some hops makes this beer easy to drink. Enjoyable.
