This beer is made from mainly American “2-row” malted barley with a significant amount of dark roasted "chocolate" malted barley; there is no chocolate, it just looks and tastes like there might be some. The Porter beer style is originally from England and we honor this tradition by using an English-style ale yeast (S-04) to ferment out the simple sugars from the chocolate malts. As with all ales, the complex sugars are left behind to provide a robust malt-forward character associated with the style.
