Steel yourself. The night is cold and you need the right… armament. Don’t be afraid of the dark—sip into something more comfortable.
INGREDIENT SPOTLIGHT
We used a blend of bohemian floor malted grains—pilsner, wheat, and dark. The under-modified grain gives us a richer malt character that provides lots of depth without harshness.
TASTING NOTES
Mellow, rich flavors of coffee, caramel, and milk chocolate with a medium body. Soft, creamy texture and extremely gulpable.

From the bottom of the can: "BATCH# 23313 11:14:17"
Appearance: It is a dark brown beer which is nearly black. It has a short tan head which is a bit fluffy. Not much head retention. It fades out to a ring of foam and some sparse rafts of bubbles on the surface. Spotty lacing.
Aroma: It has the scent of burnt pine wood.
Taste: Up front there is a strong flavor which is acrid and tart which tastes like carbon. Some bitter and fruity notes of what seems like cherry in the middle. The back-end is mostly bitter with this odd carbon finish.
Mouthfeel: Carbonation is on the high end. Bitterness feels on the low end of medium, which comes across as a carbon-forward grain bitterness. It is drinkable but the higher carbonation hampers it a bit.
Overall: As a whole the beer floats at the lower end of average when it comes to a Czech Dark Lager. It is an alright attempt at the style but it lacks malt balance and refinement. It tastes like a draft run of a beer recipe rather than something that has been made before. It is drinkable but it isn't something I would recommend or buy again.

Pours a dark brown with a solid 1" khaki head, very good retention. Nose is cocoa powder, semi-sweet chocolate, grassy hops, metallic notes. A bit on the sweet sight compared to other Czech dark lagers, but does it most of the expected notes. Flavor follows suit - mild grassy bitterness, light roasted malt, chocolate milk. Sweetness isn't pronounced, but this isn't as dry or tannic as many others within the style. Still, this was relatively balanced. Mouthfeel was moderately full with light, creaming carbonation.

A: The beer is very dark brown when viewed from afar and has hints of dark red near the edges of the glass when held up to the light. It poured with a short off white head that left a narrow collar around the edge and a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of dark malts are present in the nose along with notes of coffee beans and roasted malts.
T: The taste follows the smell and has a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels just medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is somewhat clean.
O: This beer is quite malty in both the smell and taste but drinks a lot easier compared to what I would have expected.
