Pours a murky, very dark orange, brown'ish coloration with a small fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and hints of fruity hops, which are overshadowed by an odd, quite sharply herbal note that is not particularly pleasant. Taste is a poor balance of light biscuity malt and hints of fruity hops, with faint accents of mango and grapefruit, again overshadowed by a very sharp herbal and bitter note. Finishes with a strong bitterness and hop burn, as well as a sharp, herbal bitterness lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body abnd carbonation.
While I usually quite like some herbal, bitter notes in my New England IPAs, this is so sharp, pronounced and atypical here that I really have to wonder whether it's intended, with an unpleasant aroma, while the coloration is also a bit off. Perhaps it's oxidation, perhaps just a case of really bad hop burn, as I'm having this rather fresh, but it just doesn't make for a particularly enjoyable NEIPA experience despite a good mouthfeel and nice hints of fruity notes underneath all that. While it may be considered a drinkable old school IPA, I really can't rate it highly as a self-described NEIPA.
