Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt, chocolate and hints of vanilla and licorice. Taste is a great balance of roasted, caramel malt, some chocolate, lighter coffee and vanilla, as well as just a hint of licorice and lactose. Finishes with a light bitterness and some roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This makes for a very nice milk stout with a great balance of sweet and roasted, bitter notes. There's a light sweetness to this from the vanilla and lactose, but overall it feels a bit more dry, with some really nice roasted and bitter accents, which is just the way I like it personally. Perhaps the vanilla could be just a tad more pronounced, but there is a good presence that works well within the overall framework here, with the chocolate and lighter coffee also standing out and everything harmonizing rather well together, with a good body and mouthfeel as well.
